Dhenkanal: A member of the Forest Department’s elephant squad who was critically injured in a jumbo attack yesterday near Gahamkhunti village under Dhenkanal Sadar Forest Range, succumbed late at night.
According to reports, deceased squad member Biswaranjan Panigrahi was attacked by the tusker while he was trying to tranquilize it for treatment. He had been admitted to the district headquarters hospital following the attack.
He was later shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital where he breathed his last during treatment.
A tusker with an injured front right leg with blood oozing from it was seen moving in the Tikili Pokhari area near Gahamkhunti village for the last three days. The tusker was suspected to have been injured by a poacher’s bullet.
