Nayagarh: A forest night watchman died after coming in contact with a deadly electric wire trap laid by poachers in Badamula reserve forest under Gania police station in Nayagarh district.
The deceased forest personnel, identified as Ranjan Sethi (30) went to duty last night but didn’t return home till late morning. Family members launched a search and found him lying with a trap of 11 kv live wire.
“When he did not return to home, we dialed his mobile number which rang but he didn’t pick up the phone. After some time, the mobile phone was switched off. We searched him in the forest and found him dead with an electric trap,” Sehti’s uncle said.
The trap was laid by poachers using a hook to connect the live wire.
The family members lodged a complaint at Gania police station and forest department.
Police and the forest department launched a joint inquiry into the incident.
