Bhubaneswar: Former MLA Bikram Panda is in trouble again. A case has been registered against him at Gosaninuagaon police station for allegedly threatening a witness over the phone while he was in jail.
Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M has informed in this regard.According to preliminary investigation, Panda is accused of threatening a witness using the phone of physician Dr. Sushant Panigrahi while he was in jail. Police said evidence regarding the phone conversation was found from the jail’s CCTV footage. Subsequently, a case has been registered at Gosaninuagaon police station.
A case has also been registered against Madan Dalai on the same charge in this incident. Police said a letter will be written to the government for departmental action against the doctor for allegedly cooperating in use of phone from jail.
However, the veracity of the allegations in the new case is still under investigation.
Bikram Panda was arrested in the murder case of lawyer Pitabas Panda. On August 31, the Orissa High Court ordered his release, citing legal irregularities in the arrest process. The order also included a condition that he would not threaten, intimidate or influence witnesses, complainants or the victim’s family.
