Former Co-Op Society Official Convicted For Misappropriating Govt Fund

Bhubaneswar: In a significant verdict, Purna Chandra Nayak, former Assistant Secretary of Rasalpur Service Co-operative Society in Balasore was convicted for misappropriating government funds amounting to Rs. 6,15,000.

The conviction was handed down by the Special Vigilance Judge in Balasore.

The court found Nayak guilty of impersonating himself as the Secretary of the Society by falsifying records and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years. Besides, the court imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh.

The Odisha Vigilance department had charged Nayak under various sections of the PC Act 1988 and IPC, including 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d), 409, 418, 419, 420, 468, and 477-A.
