Bhubaneswar: In a significant anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Sarat Chandra Nanda, former development Clerk-cum-store in-charge of Champua Block in Keonjhar in a corruption case.
The Special Vigilance Judge, Keonjhar convicted Nanda and sentenced him to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 10,000.
Nanda was found guilty of manipulating cement stock and issue registers of Champua Block during 2004-05 and 2005-06, leading to misappropriation of government money. He was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and IPC provisions.
Following his conviction, the Odisha Vigilance has decided to move the competent authority for the stoppage of his pension.
