Bhubaneswar: In a significant anti-corruption drive, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of a former Junior Engineer (JE) of Balisankara Block in Sundargarh district.
Anup Kumar Das, former Junior Engineer of Balisankara Block, was today convicted by the Special Vigilance Judge in Sundargarh. He was found guilty of misappropriating government funds by showing excess excavation work in a pond constructed under the Employment Assurance Scheme (EAS).
He was also convicted for forging signatures and Left Thumb Impressions (LTI) of labourers on muster rolls. The court sentenced him to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
The case was registered and charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with relevant sections of the IPC. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has decided to move the competent authority for the stoppage of pension of Das.
