Bhubaneswar: Former Jharsuguda MLA Birendra Pandey passed away in the early hours of Sunday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 75. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Pandey was suffering from kidney-related disease and was sick for a long time.

He was a three-time Congress MLA from the Jharsuguda Assembly seat. He was elected to the Assembly in 1980 1985 and 1995.

Several Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee leaders condoled his passing away.

Incidentally, four prominent political leaders in Jharsuguda passed away in the last 15 months. The deaths of Kishore Mohanty, Hemanand Bishwal, Naba Kishore Das and Virendra Pandey have left some kind of void in the political leadership in the district politics.
