Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Kendujhar has sentenced former Junior Clerk Sangram Pattnaik to two years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine after convicting him in a case relating to the misappropriation of General Provident Fund (GPF) refund money of health workers.
Pattnaik, who had served as Junior Clerk at Padmapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kendujhar and is currently posted as a Senior Clerk at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Kendujhar on Wednesday.
According to the Odisha Vigilance, Pattnaik was charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(c) and 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409, 477-A, 435 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
The case relates to the period between 1999 and 2003, when Pattnaik allegedly misappropriated GPF refund amounts of health workers after deducting the money from their salaries but failing to remit it to the Accountant General (AG), Odisha, Bhubaneswar.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance said it will move the competent authority for Pattnaik’s dismissal from government service.
