Bhubaneswar: Purna Chandra Majhi, former MLA of Laxmipur in Koraput district passed away in Bhubaneswar on Monday late night. He was undergoing treatment at AIIMS for a prolonged illness.
Majhi, a veteran Congress leader, had won the 2008 by-election from the Laxmipur constituency. He was the son of former minister and senior Congress leader Ananta Ram Majhi and brother of Rayagada MLA candidate Anusuya Majhi.
The Congress leader’s demise has cast a pall of sorrow across the political spectrum, with many expressing condolences.
Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhii expressed grief over the demise of Majhi. Taking to his X account, he wrote: “Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of former Laxmipur MLA Purna Chandra Majhi. I’m extremely grieved and shocked. May Lord Jagannath grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family.”
