Berhampur: In 1998, a police-public altercation resulted in the death of a police RI for which former Chhatrapur MLA Narayan Reddy was awarded life imprisonment.
In relation to the death case of Police Reserve Inspector Binobha Meher, the Berhampur ADJ-3 Court today sentenced 13 individuals, including communist leader Narayan Reddy, to life in jail.
According to reports, a meeting at a Sindhi village regarding the acquisition of land by a reputable private company for a project escalated the conflict between the police and the general population into a violent one. In the incident, police officer RI Binobha Meher passed away.
The former lawmaker expressed dissatisfaction over the court’s verdict and stated that he would move a higher judicial forum against the sentence.
“The judgement was completely biased. It was influenced by the government. The justice was not done to farmers and public. We are disappointed. I will go to the higher court to get justice,” said Narayan Reddy after walking out of the court.
