Bhubaneswar: A former Junior Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) in Ganjam district has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 for possessing disproportionate assets.
Devi Prasad Padhy, who was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur.
Padhy was previously found guilty in a trap case for demanding and accepting a bribe from a bus owner for permit renewal. Following the latest conviction, the Odisha Vigilance sent a report to the competent authority, which led to Padhy’s dismissal from service.
Padhy was serving as the In-charge Regional Transport Officer (RTO) in Boudh at the time of his dismissal.
