Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Akrura Majhi, former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Saramuli Gram Panchayat under Daringbadi Block in Kandhamal district, for allegedly misappropriating government funds amounting to ₹53,38,809. He will be produced in court today.
As per the report, the embezzlement occurred between October 31, 2023, and November 18, 2024, during Majhi’s tenure as PEO.
A verification conducted by the Odisha Vigilance found that Majhi had falsely recorded the execution of developmental works in the cash book and misappropriated the funds meant for various projects under the 15th Central Finance Commission (CFC) and 5th State Finance Commission (SFC) grants. Following the investigation, Majhi was arrested and forwarded to the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani.
A case has been registered against Majhi, and the case number is Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 8/18.6.2025.
Majhi has been charged under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and Section 316(5) of the BNS for allegedly misappropriating government funds amounting to Rs 53,38,809.
The investigation into the case is currently underway, with the Odisha Vigilance working to gather evidence and build a strong case against the accused.
