Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Jeypore has convicted former Sarpanch and former Panchayat Executive Office (PEO) in Koraput district and sentenced the duo to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a misappropriation case.
The convicts have been identified as former Sarpanch Jayaram Golory and former PEO Sri Nalla Eswar Rao of Kolabir Gram Panchayat under Nandapur Block in Koraput district. They were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in the Koraput Vigilance PS case under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) PC Act, 1988/409/120-B IPC, for misappropriating 1,196 bags of cement.
The court sentenced both the convicts to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years each. Besides, the court has slapped a fine of Rs.20,000 on each and in default of payment of the fine, they will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for an additional three months for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) PC Act, 1988/409/34 IPC. All the sentences are to run concurrently.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the stoppage of the pension of ex-PEO (retired) following his conviction.
