Keonjhar: A former ward member was beaten to death with iron rods at Manoharpur village under Bauripada gram panchayat in Keonjhar district on Monday night.
The deceased identified as Bhagyadhar Ghana of the village was called by four miscreants to a secluded place near the village pond on the pretext of a feast.
Bhagyadhar and one of his friends Tarani Dehury arrived at the spot on a motorcycle. While they were busy feasting, the miscreants brought out iron rods from their vehicle and attacked the duo.
Tarani managed to escape from the spot and reached Biswanathpur village. He informed the locals and they contacted the police. On reaching the spot, police found the miscreants had fled the spot after murdering Bhagyadhar.
It is suspected that he was murdered over some tender work. As per the last reports, police have detained two persons for interrogation while two others are absconding. A manhunt has been launched to nab them.
