Bhubaneswar: In a significant breakthrough, Berhampur police on Wednesday arrested four persons in connection with the armed robbery and shooting of diamond trader Balaram Acharya in Sastri Nagar of Berhampur.
The accused have been identified as Malay Upadhyay, Saroj Kumar Mohanty of Khandagiri, Sheikh Raju, and Sahil Khan.
According to police, the gang looted a 9.96-carat gemstone and opened fire on the businessman during the attack.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the police arrested the suspects and seized a vehicle, three mobile phones, two empty cartridges, and two live bullets from their possession.
The arrested persons have been produced before the court, while efforts are on to trace other associates involved in the crime.
Further investigation is underway.
