Baripada: A Special Fast Track Court in Baripada on Monday convicted four persons in a minor girl rape case reported from the Bisoi police station area of Mayurbhanj district in 2021.
Presiding judge Santosh Kumar Nayak sentenced the two main accused, Rohidas Singh and Narayan Hembram, to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each of them, with an additional six months’ imprisonment in case of non-payment.
The other two accused, Prakash Soren and Saibu Soren, were awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment each. They were fined ₹3,000 each, failing which they will have to undergo an additional three months in jail.
According to case records, a complaint was lodged in 2021 alleging that a minor girl was raped in the Bisoi police limits. Following the complaint, police registered a case, arrested the accused, and subsequently filed a charge sheet.
The court pronounced the verdict based on the evidence presented during the trial.
The case was prosecuted by Special Public Prosecutor Prabhat Behera on behalf of the state.
