Keonjhar: Town police on Wednesday busted a bike lifting racket with the arrest of five youths including four engineering students from a rented house in Keonjhar district.
According to sources, the regular occurrence of bike theft has become a headache for Keonjhar Town Police. On March 31, a resident of Turamunga Denua filed a complaint regarding his bike theft from Madhapur.
On a tip-off, police raided a rented house and arrested four engineering students among five. Four bikes were seized from their possession. They were forwarded to a court, said police sources.
During interrogation, the engineering students claimed to have committed the crime.
Police said their desire to lead a luxurious life has made these students get arrested. Widespread unemployment has driven engineering graduates towards a life of crime, either to meet financial commitments or to support their extravagant lifestyles. Armed with BTech degrees engineering graduates from the city are heading towards drug peddling, extortion, human trafficking, dacoity, and cyber-crime, apart from other petty thefts.
