Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested four persons for allegedly laying live electric wires to poach wild animals, which led to the electrocution death of a man in Ganjam district.
The incident took place on October 7 at Bhabarada village under Polasara police station limits. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Santosh Kumar Swain, a resident of the same village, who came in contact with the live wire trap laid in a field, officials said. The accused were apprehended on Thursday night, police said on Friday.
A bundle of electric wire and bamboo sticks used to lay the trap have been seized from their possession, said Sujit Nayak, SDPO, Purushottampur.
“During investigation, it came to light that the accused had laid live wires for hunting wild animals, particularly wild boars,” Nayak said.
