Brahmapur: A routine vehicle checking drive by Ganjam Police led to the arrest of four persons after one of them allegedly threatened police personnel by displaying a pistol at Bhanjanagar on Saturday.
The incident occurred near Chakara Bisoyi Square, where police officials were conducting routine vehicle inspections as part of intensified enforcement measures.
According to police, the accused confronted the checking team and allegedly brandished a pistol while attempting to intimidate the officers.
Acting swiftly, the police overpowered and apprehended the individual carrying the firearm along with three of his associates, preventing the situation from escalating.
During the operation, police seized a pistol, a magazine, two live cartridges, multiple mobile phones and two motorcycles allegedly used by the accused.
The four arrested persons have been taken into custody, and police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain their criminal antecedents and examine whether they were involved in any other unlawful activities.
Police officials reiterated that strict action would be taken against those found carrying illegal firearms or attempting to threaten law enforcement personnel. The successful operation reflects the effectiveness of proactive vehicle checking drives and the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
Following the incident, security checks and surveillance have been further intensified in the area to curb illegal arms possession and ensure public safety.
