Bhubaneswar: The authorities have opened four more gates of the Hirakud Dam, bringing the total number of gates opened to eight to release excess floodwater. Currently, five gates on the left side and three gates on the right side of the dam are open.
As per reports, the decision to open more gates was taken after heavy rainfall in various parts of the state over the past few days, leading to a rise in the water level and creating flood-like situations in several areas.
With the water level continuing to rise due to the incessant rainfall, the authorities have taken this step to ensure the safety of the dam and the surrounding areas.
The opening of additional gates will help to release excess water and mitigate the risk of flooding downstream.
