Bhubaneswar: A giant laddoo weighing 4 tonne offered to Lord Ganesh was auctioned for Rs 17 lakh in Talcher.The massive laddoo prasad was taken by the highest bidder Diamond Group.
The bidding started with small amounts and within a few minutes it reached lakhs. Amid loud cheers by hundreds of devotees, Diamond Group emerged as the top bidder and received the prasad.
Despite heavy rainfall, devotees stayed throughout the auction and cheered for the buyers. After a neck-to-neck fight, the sweet prasad was finally auctioned for a whopping Rs 17 lakh.
Devotees believe the laddoo brings prosperity to the winner. The winners not only distribute pieces of laddoo among family and friends, but also sprinkle the remnants in their agricultural fields, business houses and at home.
Several organisations and individuals participated in the auction to claim the holy prasad this year. The annual auction of Lord Ganesh’s laddoo in Talcher marks the beginning of the Ganesh immersion procession, which passes through various parts of the town.
