Kendrapara: Mahakalapada Police on Monday arrested another accused in connection with the alleged misconduct involving Tikhiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha at the Mahakalapada Block Office in Kendrapara district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to four.
The latest accused, identified as Sukanta Swain, was taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the incident that occurred on June 11 inside the chamber of the Block Development Officer (BDO) at Mahakalapada.
According to police sources, Swain is accused of misbehaving with the woman sarpanch during the incident, which had triggered widespread outrage and drawn attention from various quarters across Odisha.
The alleged misconduct inside the BDO’s chamber had sparked intense public debate and raised concerns over the safety, dignity and security of elected women representatives while discharging their official duties in government offices.
Police had earlier arrested three persons in connection with the case. With Swain’s arrest, the number of accused taken into custody has risen to four.
Investigators are continuing their probe and examining all aspects of the incident. The case remains under close scrutiny due to the significant public attention it has attracted since coming to light.
