Bhubaneswar: Strange incidents are being reported after the price of tomatoes skyrocketed across the country. In a bizarre incident, a man fled after buying 2 kg tomato from a vendor in Cuttack’s Chhatra Bazar after ‘mortgaging’ two minor boys on Saturday.
According to reports, the fraudster accompanied by two minor boys visited a vegetable vendor in Chhatra Bazar and purchased 2 kg of tomatoes. When asked for money, he told the vendor that he would return to buy 10 more kg of tomatoes and the minor boys would be waiting at the shop till he came back.
Having convinced the vendor, the conman fled the area on his motorcycle and never returned. After three hours had passed, the vendor became suspicious and inquired from the boys sitting outside his shop about the whereabouts of the man. Surprisingly, the minor boys told the vendor that they did not know the man and they were hired to help in transporting a refrigerator for a remuneration of Rs 300.
The boys told the vendor that the man had asked them to come to the market and wait outside the vegetable shop. They said that the man had cheated them too as they were not paid a single penny even after waiting for him so long.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the conman are yet to be traced despite a frantic search by the vendor.
