Kalahandi: Police on Saturday busted an illegal gambling racket operating inside a rice mill at Gajabahal village under M. Rampur police station limits in Kalahandi district and arrested five persons in connection with the case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shankarlal Agarwal, the owner of the rice mill; Vinod Jain of Tusura; Sunil Kedia, owner of Jagdamba Rice Mill; Pradeep Kumar Sahu; and Prakash from the Joradobra area.
Acting on a tip-off, Kesinga SDPO Sandeep Kumar Majhi, on the instructions of M. Rampur police, conducted a raid at Balaji Rice Mill, where the illegal gambling activity was allegedly underway. The police caught the accused red-handed during the raid.
During the operation, police seized ₹64,390 in cash, a car, and seven packets of playing cards from the spot. All the accused were taken to M. Rampur police station for questioning following the raid.
A case has been registered in this connection (Case No. 170/2026), police said, adding that further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the racket and possible involvement of others.
