Angul: A motorcyclist was critically injured after a ganja-laden vehicle, allegedly attempting to evade police, met with an accident on Wednesday at Shankhamala Chhak under Kiakata Police Station limits in Angul district.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the vehicle, reportedly carrying ganja, was travelling from the Kiakata Bridge area in Boudh district towards Sambalpur. Acting on prior information, police began pursuing the vehicle. On realising that the police were chasing him, the driver allegedly sped up in an attempt to escape.
During the high-speed chase, the car collided head-on with a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction. The impact left the motorcyclist critically injured. He was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility, where his condition was stated to be serious.
Police managed to stop the vehicle soon after the crash. The car was seized, and the driver was taken into custody. While personnel from Boudh police escorted the detained driver to the Boudh police station for further interrogation, officers from Kiakata police station remained at the accident site to guard the seized vehicle.
Following the incident, local residents staged a road blockade at Shankhamala Chhak, demanding compensation for the injured motorcyclist. The protest led to a complete halt in vehicular movement on the Sankhamala–Sonepur road for several hours, causing inconvenience to commuters.
