Sundargarh: Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court of Sundargarh on Monday sentenced five persons to undergo 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for smuggling marijuana.
The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on each. They will undergo an additional six months of imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine amount, pronounced the judge.
All the convicts belong to Chandauli and Sonbhadra areas of Uttar Pradesh.
According to sources, the smugglers were intercepted by Rajgangpur police when they were carrying contraband weighing more than 4 quintals in a car on March 1, 2022. Police had seized the ganja and arrested them. Later, they were forwarded to court. A case was also registered in this connection.
