Malkangiri: In a major success against narcotics trafficking, police in Malkangiri district seized more than four quintals of ganja worth around ₹1 crore from a pickup van and arrested one person during a vehicle interception in Kalimela block.
According to police, the contraband was being illegally transported from Kalimela to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Acting during routine patrolling, personnel of MV-79 Police Station signalled a suspicious pickup van to stop for inspection. However, the driver ignored the signal and attempted to flee at high speed.
The police chased the vehicle and eventually intercepted it, leading to the seizure of more than four quintals of ganja along with the pickup van. The driver was taken into custody and later produced before a court.
Police have launched a further investigation to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify other individuals involved in the interstate smuggling network.
