Bhubaneswar: A man was allegedly beaten to death by his elder brother in Brahmanpadar village under Tarasingh police station in Ganjam district, on Saturday night.

The deceased, identified as Balaram Gowda (35) lived in Bhanjanagar with his wife and child, where he worked as a painter.

According to reports, Balaram had returned to his native village on Saturday for personal reasons. After spending time at his parents’ home, he stepped outside to urinate, during which an altercation broke out between him and his elder brother in front of the house for reasons yet to be determined.

The situation escalated when the elder brother, along with others, allegedly tied Balaram to a tree on the village road and assaulted him brutally.

On hearing of the incident, Balaram’s mother rushed to intervene but found her son lifeless.

On Sunday morning, Balaram’s wife, Sumitra Mallick, was informed of the tragedy. She reached the village and lodged a complaint with the Tarasingh police.

The police seized Balaram’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The accused elder brother and another person have been detained for questioning.
