Berhampur: Ganjam has emerged as Odisha’s leading district in rooftop solar adoption under the Centre’s flagship PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. According to official data, Ganjam has recorded 16,418 rooftop solar installations, the highest in the state.

It is closely followed by Balasore with 16,407 units, Khordha with 14,603, Cuttack with 13,758 and Mayurbhanj with 9,751.Collector Ganjam, Keerthi Vasan V., said the response from the public has been overwhelming.

“People have shown much interest in availing benefits under the scheme. We hope to add another 25,000 rooftop solar systems by the end of March 2027 as part of our continued efforts towards a sustainable and green future,” he said.

Officials said the milestone reflects growing acceptance of solar energy among households and a clear shift towards sustainable and clean power generation.TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), the implementing agency for eight southern districts, attributed the growth to its grassroots outreach and utility-led aggregation model that improved access to rooftop solar.
