Terming the deluge at Patrapur as the fourth-highest single-day rainfall ever recorded in Odisha’s weather history, the SRC said the state has witnessed such heavy downpour after 1991 and 2019.
He further informed Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi district continues to hold the all-time record with 825 mm of rainfall in a single day in 1991.Other significant records include 608 mm at Karlamunda and 555 mm at Balangir, both witnessed during the intense downpour in 2019.
According to the SRC, such heavy and concentrated rain has resulted in severe flooding, waterlogging of vast areas and increased risk of landslides in several southern districts. ODRAF and Fire Services teams are still deployed across Ganjam and are engaged in rescue, relief and evacuation operations, while keeping a close watch on overflowing rivers and inundated roads.
