Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, three members of a family were critically injured due to an electrical short circuit, followed by a gas cylinder explosion in the Bhapur tehsil area of Nayagarh district in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The incident occurred at the official quarter of Kailash Chandra Das, employed as the head clerk at Bhapur Tehsildar’s office.
According to reports, the incident occurred at 3 am due to a short circuit in the table fan located in the bedroom, which caused the gas cylinder explosion.
In the spur of the moment, the blazing fire spread across the room, obstructing the movement of the inhabitants. The family of six members somehow narrowly managed to escape from the quarter, but Kailash, his wife, and his mother sustained burn injuries.
Upon hearing the loud noise of the cylinder explosion, locals rushed to the spot and took the injured Kailash and his family members to the Bhapur Community Health Center (CHC) for treatment.
Meanwhile, Bhapur firefighters promptly arrived at the scene and helped extinguish the fire.
During the incident, a portion of the roof was blown off, and all belongings inside the residence were completely damaged.
