Rayagada: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani arrived at the IMFA (Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd) plant in Therubali, Rayagada district on Sunday by helicopter, triggering fresh discussion about the group’s upcoming investments in the region.

According to officials, a meeting was held at the IMFA plant premises for about an hour. Gautam Adani, his son Karan Adani and senior district officials attended the meeting. During the visit, senior technical officials from the Adani Group assessed land availability, transport connectivity and infrastructure readiness in the area.

The visit of the head of one of the world’s leading industrial conglomerates to Rayagada has fuelled speculation about the group’s next big project in Odisha. It may be recalled that the Adani Group has already acquired bauxite mines in Kashipur block of Rayagada.

The company has also set up an office in Rayagada under the name Kalinga Aluminium Limited. Earlier, around 1700 acres of land was identified in Kolnara block for setting up an industry. However, land acquisition work could not begin as the area has a higher share of private land compared to government land.

The Rayagada visit comes days after the Adani Group proposed to set up two nuclear power plants in Odisha. The proposal, estimated at around Rs 1.5 lakh crore, envisages two facilities with a combined capacity of 5,600 MW. The proposal marks a significant step toward private participation in India’s civil nuclear energy sector.

The proposal was recently presented by an Adani delegation led by Subrat Tripathy, President (Business Development), Adani Ports and SEZ, during a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo in Bhubaneswar.
