Puri: At least 32 students of Aragada Upper Primary School in Delang block of Puri district fell ill on Tuesday after consuming the school’s midday meal, allegedly contaminated by a gecko.

According to preliminary information, the children complained of nausea and vomiting shortly after having the meal. Initial inquiries indicated that a gecko had accidentally fallen into the food served to the students, leading to the health scare.

All the affected students were immediately taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Delang for treatment. While most of them are reported to be stable, six students who suffered excessive vomiting were referred to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for advanced medical care.

Health officials and the local administration rushed to the school after being informed of the incident. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the suspected contamination of the midday meal. Authorities are also monitoring the condition of the affected students.
