Bhubaneswar: A large gharial has been spotted roaming in the Mahanadi River, causing widespread panic among locals. The reptile, estimated to be around 10 feet long, was seen sleeping under the Madhusudan Bridge connecting Cuttack CDA to Chaudwar Nuapatna on Saturday morning.

Khuntuni Ranger Nilamadhav Sahu confirmed the sighting, warning people to avoid bathing in the river. The news has attracted hundreds of onlookers, who have gathered on the bridge to catch a glimpse of the aquatic creature.

This is not the first time a crocodile has been spotted in Odisha rivers. Earlier sightings have been reported in the Mantei River, Kharasrota River, and Baitarani River in Jajpur.

Forest Department has urged people to exercise caution and avoid entering the river until the reptile is safely relocated.
