Cuttack: A huge crowd gathered on the Trisulia bridge in Cuttack district upon sighting of a gharial crocodile in the Kathajodi river on Saturday.

The crocodile was seen basking in the sun on a patch of sand in the river. As news of the croc’s sighting spread, a large number of people gathered on the bridge to watch the spectacle resulting in a traffic jam. Commissionerate Police rushed to the spot to clear the traffic jam.

Soon Forest department personnel arrived at the spot.

According to Forest officials, the crocodile is of the gharial variety and is harmless to humans. They said that the gharial is basking after having a meal of fish.
