Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped Baggahan village under Mahakalapada block of Kendrapada district late last night after a 15-foot-long crocodile entered a cowshed.
According to reports, the crocodile had entered the cowshed of a villager, suspected to be in search of prey. However, the cattle inside the shed ran away after spotting the reptile. Hearing the noise, the owner rushed to the shed, saw the crocodile, and alerted fellow villagers.
The crocodile later moved into a nearby pond. The villagers immediately informed the forest department.
Forest department staff reached the spot and safely rescued the crocodile and later released it in the protected creek of Bhitarkanika National Park. After the incident, an atmosphere of fear has prevailed in the village.
