Koraput: A girl student has allegedly committed suicide in a hostel room of the Central University of Odisha (CUO) at Sunabeda in Koraput district.
The body of the deceased girl student identified as Sandhyarani Das was Saturday found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room.
According to reports, Sandhyarani, who hailed from Kendrapada district was a student of the Mathematics department of the university and was studying in the first year.
Like any other day, Sandhyarani on Friday evening had dinner with her friends. At around 1.00 AM she went to her room to sleep. She was staying in a single room.
The University was having a Sports event today. Sandhyarani was to attend the event along with her friends. Her friends called her over her mobile phone to go to the event. When she didn’t pick up the mobile phone her friends went to her room and knocked on the door which was locked from the inside. As she did not respond to the knocking on the door, her friends informed the Hostel Superintendent and other officials of the University.
On being informed by the University authorities, Sunabeda police rushed to the spot and upon breaking open the hostel room door found Sandhyarani hanging from the ceiling fan of her room. University authorities have informed her family about the tragic incident.
