Jajpur: Unidentified miscreants stole gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 15 lakh from a Durga temple in the Bangali Sahi area under Korei police limits in Jajpur district in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to the complaint filed by the temple priest and committee members with Korei police, the theft occurred between 2 am and 3 am. The temple priest and the committee members went to sleep after having dinner. The thieves allegedly broke into the temple and made off with gold ornaments, including a crown, necklace, trident, earrings, and nose rings, belonging to the Goddess Durga.

The temple committee members reported the incident to Korei police, stating that they had locked the door after dinner. When they woke up, they were taken aback to find that the gold jewellery of the Goddess had been stolen.

Based on the complaint, police have begun an investigation.
