Malkangiri: In a heart-warming display of humanity, Harekrushna Patika, a health supervisor from the Salimi area of Malkangiri district, went above and beyond his call of duty to save the life of a sick woman.
Mangaldei Durua, a resident of Tulasi village, had been suffering from poor health for a long time and needed urgent medical attention.
Due to the remote location and damaged roads, the ambulance was unable to reach the village. The family and villagers had to carry Mangaldei for 5 kilometres, but when they reached the halfway point, Health Supervisor Harekrushna Patika took over and carried her for another 5 kilometres to reach the health ambulance.
With the help of the health department’s vehicle, Mangaldei was taken to the Salimi Primary Hospital and later shifted to the Mathili Sub-Division Medical Centre for treatment. Due to her critical condition, she was further referred to the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital.
Harekrushna Patika’s selfless act has highlighted the challenges faced by residents in remote areas of Malkangiri district, where a lack of infrastructure and poor road conditions often hinder access to medical care. Patika’s dedication and compassion serve as an inspiration to others.
