Bhubaneswar: Goods worth lakhs of rupees, including medicines, electronic items, and rakhis, were destroyed after a major fire broke out at a courier service centre in Nayapalli’s IRC Village in the early hours of Wednesday.
Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control. No casualties were reported.
The fire broke out at the premises of Anjani Courier Service, triggering panic among employees and local residents. The exact cause of the blaze has yet to be ascertained.
Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Fire Services rushed to the spot and launched an intensive firefighting operation. Teams from the Secretariat Fire Station, Tamando Fire Station, and the Fire Services’ striking force were deployed to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby buildings.
After prolonged efforts, firefighters managed to douse the blaze. However, by then, medicines, electronic goods, rakhis, and several other consignments stored inside the courier facility had been reduced to ashes, resulting in losses estimated at lakhs of rupees.
