Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has emphasized the need for policymakers, scientists, and researchers to identify areas in agriculture that require attention to make Odisha self-reliant.
He made this call while inaugurating a national seminar on “Odisha’s Agricultural Business Potential” at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in association with the Indian Society of Agricultural Marketing (ISAM), Hyderabad.
The Governor highlighted Odisha’s unique agro-climatic conditions, which are suitable for various agricultural enterprises, and stressed the importance of agribusiness in promoting rural prosperity and employment generation. He also emphasized the need for skill training to promote entrepreneurship among farmers and prepare them for modern agribusiness trends.
Dr. Kambhampati pointed out significant opportunities in agri-processing, value addition, cold chain, warehousing, and export-oriented agriculture sectors. He also mentioned high-potential crops like turmeric, millet, mango, marine fish, and vegetables, which can drive growth in the agriculture sector.
The Governor commended OUAT and ISAM for bringing together stakeholders to discuss sustainable pathways for agribusiness growth and stressed the need to connect farmers with the global market. He also highlighted government initiatives like Start Up Odisha and Chief Minister’s Krushi Udyog Yojana, which promote innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture.
