Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday sought a detailed report on the attempted self-immolation by a second-year Integrated B.Ed. student of FM (Autonomous) College in Balasore.
The student, currently receiving treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, allegedly attempted the act due to continuous harassment by the Head of the Education Department Samira Kumar Sahu.
The Governor stated that he has spoken to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and sought detailed information regarding the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident. He also inquired about the steps being taken to address the situation.
“The Minister assured that the matter is being taken seriously and that necessary measures have been initiated to provide support and ensure accountability,” read the Governor’s post on social media platform X.
Dr. Kambhampati also contacted the Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar to obtain a medical update and informed that a team of specialists from AIIMS Delhi is currently assisting with the treatment.
“I pray to Lord Jagannath for her swift recovery and strength, and sincerely hope she regains her health soon,” the Governor said.
Emphasising the importance of student welfare, Dr. Kambhampati added, “The safety, mental well-being, and dignity of students must be protected at all times. I have urged the authorities to act with urgency, empathy, and a sense of responsibility to prevent such incidents in the future.”
