Bhubaneswar: An unidentified person died after falling into the open Drain near Puri Police Line High School.
Kumbharapada police recovered the body after they received information about the incident. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
Police, meanwhile, sent the body to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination. Investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances in which the man fell into the drain and to trace his family.
The open drain has earned a notorious reputation, as several people have lost their lives in similar incidents in the past. Despite repeated demands from locals to cover the drain with concrete slabs for safety, the district administration is yet to take any concrete action.
This continued negligence has led to multiple deaths. Just a week ago, on April 2 the body of another unidentified person was recovered.
