Bhubaneswar: Reacting to cyclone predictions being made by some private agencies, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Thursday said that while private organisations are free to make their own assessments, the state government remains fully prepared round the year to deal with any natural disaster.
“Private agencies are doing their own calculations. Let them do so. But the government is always ready to face natural calamities. We believe Lord Jagannath will stand with us. So far, no such accurate assessment has been made. Whatever natural disaster comes, we will be able to tackle it. We are prepared 365 days,” the Minister stated.
Pujari further informed that the state is strengthening its advanced Doppler radar network for early warning and more accurate assessment of cyclones. A new Doppler radar has already been installed in Sambalpur. By December this year, state-of-the-art Doppler radars will be set up in Bhubaneswar, Baleshwar and Gopalpur. These radars will enable precise tracking and assessment of natural disasters such as cyclones.
Pujari further stated that special emphasis is being laid on collecting data from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and surrounding regions to issue advance warnings. This system will help the administration take timely preventive measures before any disaster strikes.
