Bhubaneswar: The public hearing on GRIDCO’s Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) and Bulk Supply Price (BSP) Petition for FY 2022-23 was conducted by the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) on 19th February 2022. The hearing was attended by representatives from the Energy Department, Government of Odisha, public representatives, DISCOMs, Industry Associations and other stakeholders.
GRIDCO made a detailed presentation on the key highlights of the ARR Petition and its action plan for the upcoming year. The presentation covered a plan to ensure 24×7 supply of quality and reliable power to the state without impacting the consumer tariff.MD informed that GRIDCO along with the State Government has taken up the matter with the Central Government to deallocate the power purchase agreements with central thermal power plants, where the cost of power is high, to ensure that consumers in the state get uninterrupted supply at affordable power tariff. GRIDCO mentioned that it has sufficient tied up capacity to cater to the growing energy requirements of industries in the state.
GRIDCO also reiterated its commitment to promote renewable energy in the state and assured to meet the Renewable Purchase Obligation targets. The stakeholders participated in the hearing and made constructive suggestions for improving the power supply to the consumers in a cost-effective manner.
GRIDCO plays a key role as the “State Designated Entity” in ensuring that the state demand for power is reliably met, without any interruption even at the time of peak requirement. It also ensures that the tariff is uniform across the state and helps in improving overall efficiency of the power sector in Odisha. The stakeholders appreciated the steps taken by GRIDCO in selling its surplus power at better rates thereby using the proceeds to reduce power purchase cost which helps to lower the burden on consumer tariff of the state.
