Nuapada: A group of five youths in Dhyanamunda village in Nuapada have set up a self-help group and excelled in farming activities. The group is now growing potatoes, onions and cauliflower and selling it in the local market to earn a handsome living.
Most significant to note is that all five of them are physically challenged. However, being specially abled has never been an impediment for them, rather these promising youths have marched forward considering this as their strength.
With a small investment, proper planning, and effective execution, the SHG comprising five PwD youths has set an example for society, and youngsters in particular, to be self-reliant. It was upon the advice of the local administration that these youths got their group formally registered as an SHG.
While the group has garnered praise from all corners, their initiative and endeavour have been duly recognised by the district administration of Nuapada. Collector Hema Kanta Say has helped them with financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for growing bigger.
