Nabarangpur: In a tragic incident, a 56-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by lightning in Borigaon in Nabarangpur district, on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, the deceased, identified as Dasae Panaka of Dongariguda village, was returning home from a weekly haat (market) when the freak accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said Dasae had visited the Dabugaon market in the morning and boarded a bus back in the afternoon. After disembarking near Borigaon, she was walking home amid heavy rain and thunderstorms when lightning struck her. She collapsed on the road.
Despite being rushed to the Dabugaon Community Health Centre, doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police have seized the body for conduct of post-mortem.
The incident has left the village in shock, with locals mourning the sudden loss.
