Gunfire During Theft Attempt In Malkangiri Village; 2 Thieves Arrested, 4 Flee

Malkangiri: A tense situation unfolded in Girkanpali village under Malkangiri district after a group of thieves attempted to steal goats, leading to gunfire and a joint chase by alert villagers and police.

According to reports, a gang of six thieves targeted Girkanpali village late on Tuesday night to steal goats. Villagers, who were already on high alert due to previous incidents, spotted the intruders and tried to apprehend them.

In a desperate bid to escape, the thieves opened fire, discharging at least three rounds from a pistol. Despite the gunfire, the villagers refused to back down and, with the prompt support of local police, launched a determined pursuit. Out of the six-member gang, two thieves were successfully caught after a chase, while the remaining four managed to flee into the surrounding areas.The two arrested individuals have been identified as Sujay Mandal, resident of MV 123 village, Rahul Shikari, resident of MPV 45 village.

Police have registered a case and are interrogating the arrested duo to gather information about their accomplices and recover the weapon used in the firing. A manhunt has been launched for the four fugitives.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
