Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today said the two-day “Gyan Sanskar” Program at the Assembly starting today aims to equip newly elected MLAs with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively represent their constituents and contribute to the State’s development.
While addressing the event, he said that the initiative is a welcome step towards strengthening democracy.
Majhi recalled his own experience of attending a similar training program 24 years ago when he was first elected to the Legislative Assembly. He emphasized the importance of such programs in acquiring knowledge of parliamentary traditions and constitutional law.
The Chief Minister stressed that the real power holders in the constitutional system are the people, and it is essential to implement democratic governance effectively to drive progress. He urged the legislators to work diligently to fulfil the expectations of their constituents and maintain their dignity.
“The first duty of the elected legislators, leaders and MPs is to adhere to the provisions of the constitution and make full use of the powers given to them by working diligently to fulfil the expectations and hopes of the constituents and keeping their dignity intact,” Majhi said.
Majhi quoted Dr. Pandit Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, emphasizing the need for qualified and people-oriented representatives to improve democracy. He encouraged the elected leaders to work together, beyond party affiliations, to make Odisha one of the best-developed states in India.
“Our country’s legislatures, legislative councils and India’s highest people’s representative bodies, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have always been working successfully with faith in democracy,” the CM pointed out.
With the Chief Minister’s endorsement, this initiative is expected to have a positive impact on Odisha’s democratic governance.
The program includes training on parliamentary traditions and constitutional law, discussions on democratic governance and its effective implementation.
