Koraput: A joint team of the Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Department and district administration on Wednesday sealed an ultrasound machine operating illegally at a private nursing home in Dolamandap Sahi of Jeypore in Koraput district following a surprise raid.
Dr Neelamadhav Satpathy, ADPHO, (FW), Koraput and Prabhat Parida, Sub Collector, Jeypore accompanied by other officials of the H&FW Department conducted a surprise raid at Gourishankar Nursing Home in Dolamandap Sahi of Jeypore and found that an ultrasound machine was being operated without a competent medical officer.
“A competent medical officer is supposed to operate an ultrasound machine. Since there was no competent medical officer we sealed the ultrasound machine. This machine can be used for the sex determination of the fetus and the purpose of abortion following sex determination; therefore a competent medical officer is required for its operation. Therefore, as per the rules and the Collector’s order, we have sealed the ultrasound machine. It will remain inoperational till a competent medical officer has joined,” informed Dr Neelamadhav Satpathy, ADPHO, (FW), Koraput.
